School visits and St Edmund's Science Fair

What a wet week we have had! We could really do with some spring sunshine soon. It hasn’t dampened our spirits and everyone has been very busy this week.

In addition to the learning and school visits, the puddle has returned to the playground this morning. We had a tree branch down which needed to be removed safely on Tuesday, blocked drains on Wednesday, which meant taking up the floor in the Reception classroom and then the power going down yesterday afternoon. There is never a dull moment in school!

The children have been busy too. Year R had a wonderful day on Wednesday at Little Street where they took on different jobs and roles: firefighters, police, vets, visiting the supermarket, beauty salon and pizza parlour! I was even arrested twice by some very efficient police officers. It is Year 4’s turn today, and they are stepping back in time for the day at Fishbourne Roman Palace.

The Science Fair on Wednesday afternoon was a great success. The children’s projects were amazing! The highlight was hearing the children talking about their experiments; they were able to talk about their knowledge with real confidence. You are all Super Scientists! The class winners will be announced next week, and we will be taking some of the KS 2 scientists to the Xavier Trust Science Fair later this month.

Year 2 shared their class assembly this morning; it was all about Fairtrade chocolate. The children explained what ‘Fairtrade’ means and the logo design. They took us into the future to see what would happen to chocolate production if we don’t shop Fairtrade now! Very worryingly, it looks as if there wouldn’t be any chocolate at all! This Lent, maybe buying Fairtrade would be something we could easily do to make a difference. It was a great assembly. Thank you to Year 2 and Miss Pink for making us all smile this morning.

We have had a quick trip to the post-box with Year R with some very special invitations for their mummies. We tried to avoid the rain but didn’t quite time it right!

Have a lovely weekend everyone,

Elizabeth
