Curriculum afternoon and our Lenten journey

We only have four days next week until the start of the Easter holidays. This Sunday, Palm Sunday, marks the start of Holy Week.

We started this week with our assembly, thinking about our Lenten journey. We heard how Jesus tried to prepare the disciples for his death and resurrection, through talking about a grain of wheat bringing forth new life. We can see new life springing up around us in nature, as the days lengthen, and we feel the warmth of the sun.

It will be lovely to be at school during Holy Week this year. Seeing the Year 6 children perform their Passion Play will be a real highlight and will really help them to understand the story of Jesus’ final days on earth. Father Jonathan has been with us this week, leading Stations of the Cross in the playground with the children from KS2.

On Monday afternoon, there was a wonderful atmosphere around the school as we took part in our first curriculum afternoon. The children were in their house groups, with their siblings. They went to a different class and worked with the teachers on a curriculum subject: art with Mrs Every, history with Miss Pink, computing with Mrs Eddles, maths with Mrs Watson, Italian with Mrs Holden, RE with Mrs Hua, reading with Mrs Shorten, geography with Mrs Field. The teachers talked to the children about their learning in each subject and then the children worked together collaboratively. It was amazing to see the older children talking and learning with the younger ones. Everyone really enjoyed it!

Have a lovely weekend,

Elizabeth
