Golden Jubilee celebrations, sunshine, cakes and half term holiday..

What a beautiful week we have had. It has been lovely to have some summer sunshine and to be able to rely upon the weather for once; I do hope it manages to last into half term.

It was the perfect weather for our Golden Jubilee yesterday. The children were very excited and have loved finding out about the history of St Edmund’s School. They have looked at the log books and photographs and old uniform and thought about what it might have been like in the past. We talked about how communication has changed and rather than writing daily in the log book I write a blog, newsletters and share school photos and events on our website. It was wonderful to have Bishop Richard with us for the day, he spent time talking to all the children, visiting every class and even stayed in Year 6 to join in their class collective worship, at the children’s request! Thank you to Father David who spent the day with us and also brought his mum to meet us all. During Mass a group of children performed a special prayer sculpture and explained how they had prepared it.

We were delighted to have so many visitors joining us, including past teachers and governors, parents, grandparents and parishioners; I know everyone enjoyed looking at all the old photographs and finding themselves! We all enjoyed the cakes and refreshments after Mass.

All the children have received a Jubilee bookmark, blessed by the Bishop which I hope will always remind them of their time at St Edmund’s. I feel very proud to be here as headteacher, 50 years after the school opened, looking at all we have achieved and thinking of all the children a and families who are part of St Edmunds’. It was one of those really special days that I am sure the children will always remember.

We will have our Golden Assembly this afternoon, the children are looking forward to seeing who has been chosen for the Headteachers Awards this term and finding out which house has secured the House Points Cup this time!

This morning we have our class and leavers’ photographs being taken. The children are all looking very smart and happy. We hope you will like them!

Have a wonderful half term holiday; I can hardly believe that we are fast approaching the end of the school year! I'm looking forward to an exciting final half term after the holiday.
