Parents School Association (PSA)

St Edmund’s has a vibrant PSA which supports the school by organising social and fund raising events. This means the school can afford to embark on different projects and purchase more resources to benefit the education and recreational pursuits of the children. Notably the PSA raised substantial funds for the building of new classrooms and refurbishments in 2004 and last year helped fund the very successful playground project. This project not only enhanced our school grounds but provided more opportunities for children’s enjoyment and learning in school.

There are a number of PSA events which have already been organised so please see your PSA representatives if you can offer any additional help but most all please support your PSA. You can have fun whilst raising funds for your child’s school.

UPDATE 2

Hello, and welcome to our second newsletter. As you are aware we are quickly approaching the Christmas Fair.  Many thanks to everyone who has already donated to the various stalls, if you haven’t yet, please look out for the flyers and donate whatever you can.

The PSA committee would like to apologise for the change in dates for some of the events this term. Due to unforeseen circumstances we have had to change dates and times at short notice. There will be a disco this term - we are working hard to fix a date and time. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Please find listed below the PSA event calendar for the rest of this school year. Any offers of help with these events however small is much appreciated, please contact your class PSA rep .

Finally, as you may be aware, the new PE / PSA shed (funded by the PSA) has arrived and is in use in the KS1 playground. On Friday 20^th Nov ( St. Edmunds Feast day) we will be holding an ‘official’ opening of the shed at 3 pm. Jo Peppitt, former Chair of the PSA, will be the guest of honour and will ‘open’ the shed. We will then be having cakes and drinks afterwards in the School Library. All parents are invited to attend. As the school will be busy during this time I ask you to make your way through the playgrounds to the shed. Hope to see you there.

Please find listed below dates for the Autumn Term. Any support or help that you can give to any of these events is greatly appreciated. Flyers will come out nearer the time of each event asking for helpers. 

At the present time events for the Spring and Summer term have not been finalised but once this has been done more information will be coming to you.

PSA UPDATE JULY 2009

Just a quick “Hello” and “Goodbye” from the outgoing PSA Committee and an update on a few things you may want to hear about!

The Summer Barbeque was once again a roaring success!  A BIG THANK YOU to Debbie Sheppard (Ben Y6 and Alice Y3) and Kim Merritt (Reece Y1) for all their hard work and to all those of you who made it a great day.  We raised nearly £2000 which is a great result!

The Winners of the Raffles at the BBQ were:

Ladies Hamper -  John Paine (for Gabrielle, of course!)

Boy’s Hamper -  Emma Glass

Girl’s Hamper - Rebecca Clifton

Family Hamper -  Coombs family (sold at church we think)

100 Club  £100 winner - Bernard Polack (Parishioner and ex School Governor) £50 winner - Lorraine Corps    WELL DONE TO YOU ALL!

A BIG THANK YOU to all of you who helped at the various PSA events over the year – without you, we wouldn’t be able to do it so we really do appreciate your help.

This year we have raised the impressive sum of £8500 which has gone towards:       

Library Books (£2000) –We raised a total of £12000 for the new and      improved Library!

            Repair of the awning outside Y2 (£890)

            A replacement cooker for use by the children and at PSA events (£380)

            Replacement PE and PSA Shed (£3000) – to be delivered in the holiday

Plus Class Floats, Class Xmas Parties, End of Xmas Term Mulled Wine, Easter Egg Hunt, photocopier service contract and other expenses

We are saying “Farewell and Thanks for all your hard work” to a number of Committee members at the end of this term – Jo Peppitt, Kym Cairns, Siobhan Murphy, Liz Rochester, Emily Caroe, Gabrielle Paine, Val Madle, Linda Weller, Kathryn Martin, Debbie Sheppard and Sarah Lewis.

We are also saying “Welcome (and in some cases “Welcome Back!”) and Good Luck” to the new PSA Officers (Frances Blackett, Chair, Vicky Evans, Secretary and Lisa Nichol, Treasurer) and to some new members who start on the Committee next term – Miss Godber, Staff PSA Rep, Michael Donahue, Karen Brooks, Helen Owen, Amy Lester, Claire Gilbert, Judy Wild and Rebecca Clifton.  You will be informed of your particular Class Reps in the new term.

We have put some Provisional PSA Calendar Dates in the diary.  Please note these are subject to change and will be confirmed next term.  In the meantime, you can pencil them in your diaries:

            October  17th              Evening Event

            November 28th           Christmas Fair

The provisional date for the first PSA Meeting of next term is Wed 23rd September.

All parents are welcome to attend PSA meetings so do come along and see what we’re up to!  Minutes of meetings are posted on the school website: (www.stedmundsschool.co.uk) for your perusal! So have a look and see what else we are up to!
