School Newsletters

Newsletter dated 11th July 2008

Dear parents,

Despite the unsettled weather, Sports Day went ahead and we had a wonderful morning. Congratulations to Elgar House which won KS1 sports and to Copland which won KS2. Many congratulations to Copland who took home the cup as overall winners, and to Mozart who were runners up. Congratulations to all of Elgar and Vivaldi who also did extremely well. The team spirit and fair play which the children showed combined with a healthy competitive attitude is to be celebrated. Thank you, also, to Mr Flew and to all the staff for their organisation of Sports Day and for preparing the children. Also a special word of thanks to Y6 who helped with the younger children’s sports day

Fortunately, it did not rain in the morning, though the picnic did have to be held in our hall or classrooms. Still, there was a lovely family atmosphere around the school. The Celebration of Work Afternoon was also successful and we were rewarded with a musical interlude which showed the talents of children at the school. Many thanks to the peripatetic music teachers for their support and to Dr Ward (Louis Y1) for organising it.

Once again, there has been much to celebrate, namely a reflective Going Forth School Mass for our First Holy Communicants. Many thanks to Mrs Paiano for making such a beautiful celebratory cake for the children to eat after Mass, and for helping with the refreshments. The fantastic PSA BBQ which followed was greatly enjoyed by all who attended, and raised an unbelievable £2,459. Many thanks to the PSA and to you, the parents, for all your efforts and support of this important annual fundraising event. The PSA put an inordinate amount of time in to organising such events, and their efforts are greatly appreciated by us all.

Many congratulations to Mrs McCarthy on the phenomenal success of the Athletics Team, a tribute to all their training and her commitment to their development. All the hard work of coaching the team paid off when St Edmund’s once again returned with the shield for Overall Winners and winners of both girls and boys team events. Well done to you all!

As always, thank you for your support of our school
God bless, Teresa Bullen

VERY IMPORTANT NOTICES

LEAVERS’ MASS
Please note that our Leavers’ Mass will be celebrated at 10.00am at Ladywell on Monday 21st July.

EARLY CLOSE NEXT WEDNESDAY
You would be astonished at the number of children who remain uncollected at 2pm at the end of the summer term! Please ensure that all children are collected no later than 2pm on Wednesday 23rd July. To be left uncollected is awful for the children and inconvenient for the staff who have clearing up to do. We do thank you for your attention to this.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION—NEXT TERM’S DINNER ARRANGEMENTS!
Please be aware that Mrs Facey will carry over your child’s dinner arrangements from this term to next. If you wish to change your child’s dinner arrangements you must let Mrs Facey know, in writing, by the end of this term.

GOING FORTH MASS—10.15AM—29TH JUNE 2008—BBQ
Thank you to everyone who came and supported both our Going Forth School Mass and then the wonderful PSA BBQ. Everyone who came had a wonderful time and a healthy £2,459 was raised. The Lucky 100 £50 prize went to Martin Ireland; 100 Club £100 went to Sarah Atkins and the £50 to Jason Vaz. Beat-the Goalie winner was Joel Alderton. Art winners: YR—Megan Lester; Y1—Alice Marsden; Y2—Ben Murphy and Hattie Owen; Y3—Natasha Gregory; Y4—Ryan Pink; Y5—Katie Piper and Y6—Boris Hallvig. SCHOOL MASSES NEXT YEAR
Please make a note in your diary now of the next two School Masses: Sunday 21st September 2008 and 18th January 2009.

SPORTS RESULTS
What a time we had at District Sports, held this year at Charterhouse: the weather was beautiful and the children were absolutely fantastic. 35 children from Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 took part and produced amazing results. Of the 46 races, we achieved 22 1st places and 13 2nd places. In the 10 relay races we achieved five 1st places and five 2nd places. The girls won all the skills races. We won the Boys’ Trophy, the Girls’ Trophy and the Overall Trophy for the fourth year running – a new record! It was a very rewarding day, and all their hard work over the last eight weeks really paid off – we are so very proud of them all.

UNIFORM
There have been some queries regarding uniform. Plain V-necked navy jumpers and cardigans have always been the uniform and the Marks & Spencer-style cardigans/jumpers are the model to be used to ensure that you purchase the correct uniform. For girls, the style of cardigan they should be wearing is that of the M&S navy cotton-rich cardigan (ref T76 1302R). For boys, the style of V-neck jumper they should be wearing is that of the M&S cotton-rich jumper (ref T76 3900R). If you have any doubt, and to assist you, there are photos in school showing children wearing the correct uniform. With respect to the fleece-lined coat, no firm decisions have been made, and the Governing Body needs to make a decision before they are ordered. There are some fleeces still in stock and for purchase.
