A chilly start to the month of May

I hope that everyone enjoyed the bank holiday weekend, despite the cool weather. What strange weather we have had this week. The huge hail stones and lightning during made the Rounders Club on Wednesday rather memorable for Yr 5 and 6!

This week we have had a special day for Year 3 where they celebrated Japanese Children’s Day. This is part of their topic on Japan. The children really enjoyed the day; they dressed up and made beautiful kites.

On Wednesday we had our staff meeting at Wintershall Estate. We do visit with some children quite often, but not all the teachers have had a chance to go themselves. It is such a beautiful place, and it did us all good to get out of school for an hour or two. As well as enjoying the views, pictures above, we took part in a Godly Play session and explored the resources with Lucy, the Wintershall education officer. Lucy then came to visit every class this week and led Godly play sessions for the children. Godly Play allows the children to listen to God’s word and respond in a personal and spiritual way. Every story has special figures and objects to accompany the re-telling. We hope that we can really develop the use of Godly Play with our children right across the school.

Our blue tit babies have hatched slightly sooner than we expected. We all watched with excitement on Wednesday as they emerged from their eggs. The mum and dad have been busily flying in and out to feed the five babies their caterpillars. Did you know that the parents need to find up to 100 caterpillars to feed each chick every day? If the weather is cold or wet this mammoth task is even more difficult for them. Do keep looking in on them here: http://www.seenature.org.uk/schools/st-edmunds-cep-school/

Have a lovely weekend,
