Looking after our wonderful world

We have had a great first week back at school. It has been feeling rather wintery with cold, frosty mornings. It was a beautiful but chilly morning for cross-country this morning as you can see in the picture above. The children have happily returned to school, and they have been doing some amazing learning this week too!

We started the week with our assembly, discussing some of the events we think about during November, All Saints, All Souls, Bonfire Night, Remembrance Day and St Edmund’s Feast Day! We also talked about COP26 and shared this short film, which you might like to watch at home too: https://www.tentenresources.co.uk/the-hub/cop26-prayer-free-resource/

The children are passionate about looking after our world and have some great suggestions for little things we can do every day to help.

Yesterday, two of our Governors joined me on a Learning Walk around the school. Recently, we have been working hard on our curriculum planning, especially how we teach our ‘foundation subjects’. Yesterday morning, the teachers were all teaching subjects other than English and maths so that we could see how some of the other subjects are taught. We saw some wonderful activities across the school: the children were using role play to learn about Baptism in Year R. Year 1 children were learning about recognising and managing their emotions during an active PE lesson. In Year 2 there was a very exciting science investigation using different metals. Year 3 children were taking turns to explore light and dark by crawling into a large cardboard box. Football skills were being refined in Year 4, while Year 5 children were singing and playing the glockenspiels. In Year 6 there was a thoughtful discussion on COP26 and climate change. It was a great way to see the progress in learning across the whole school.

The children look very colourful today in their autumn mufti and I know everyone is looking forward to the return of the PSA Cake Sales after school today.

Have a great weekend; enjoy any fireworks and bonfires you may be going to over the weekend,

Elizabeth
