Friday 9th December 2022

Reindeers, elves and choir!

It has been a wintery week at school, but the children have been enjoying all our Christmas activities and preparations.

During our assembly on Monday, we talked about our preparations for Christmas and how John the Baptist made a path for Jesus, preparing the way for him. The children helped us move the Nativity figures closer to the stable, and they make their journey to Bethlehem. We thought about how we can prepare ourselves and the little things we are doing to show kindness and love to others. This week we have had several opportunities for giving and helping those in need.

We started with our Reindeer Run on Monday, although it was cold, the children kept warm whilst running and really enjoyed the afternoon. From all the forms and envelopes coming in, I can see that we will have raised a lot of money for Phyllis Tuckwell, thank you for your support.

Next Friday, 16th, we are also thinking of others with our Christmas Jumper Day to support The Meath Epilepsy Charity. Helen, from The Meath came to visit us on Wednesday and gave the children a fascinating talk about the work of the charity. Please support this wonderful local charity and their Yule Fuel Appeal this year. The children are very excited about wearing their Christmas jumpers next Friday.

Our KS 2 Choir sang on Wednesday evening at a very special Christmas Celebration concert at the Holy Trinity Church in Guildford in raise money for the Fountain Centre. The children sang so beautifully and were highly praised by the audience. The other choirs were amazing too: The Surrey Hills Chamber Choir and Rock Choir. It was a wonderful experience taking part in the concert and having the opportunity to listen to such lovely singing. We all left feeling very proud and Christmassy!

Much to the children’s delight, a mischievous elf has appeared at lunchtime this week. He has been caught with the icing, on a zip wire and even been attacked by a watermelon shark! What will he get up to next week?

Rehearsals have been going well for our Christmas Performances and the children in Year R, 1 and 2 are looking forward to sharing their Nativity play, ‘It’s a Baby’ next week.

Keep warm this weekend,

Elizabeth
