Sports Day and Public Speaking

Welcome back to our final half-term of this academic year. What wonderful summer weather we are having; it has been great to know that our outdoor events can go ahead without worrying about rain! The children have had a great week back at school. The building project is nearing completion, we will start emptying the container next week and, if all goes to plan, we will have our playground back and be moving into the new rooms at the start of July.

On Tuesday I took a group of children, our Bible Leaders from Years 3, 4 and 5 to Wintershall Estate for our first Deanery Day. We had organised this day to bring the children from the schools in the Guildford Deanery together. We had seven schools altogether: St Joseph’s Guildford, St Cuthbert Mayne Cranleigh, St Polycarp’s Farnham, St Joseph’s Specialist school Cranleigh, Cranmore and Rydes Hill Guildford. It was wonderful to see all the children together, getting to know one another and experiencing a day of drama, prayer and art activities in the beautiful setting of Wintershall.

On Wednesday evening, Heidi and Catherine from Year 6 took part in a public speaking competition held at St Dunstan's Church in Woking. The girls spoke brilliantly. Heidi talked about 'Fast Fashion' and Catherine discussed whether we should have a Monarchy. Both were fascinating, topical issues and the girls spoke with maturity and confidence. Very well done to you both.

We had perfect weather for sports day today, not too hot, but dry and sunny. We were delighted to welcome parents and grandparents for the sports morning, picnic lunch and celebration of work this afternoon. The children were wonderfully supportive of each other and took part with determination, enthusiasm and resilience. A huge thank you to Mrs McCarthy for all her work in organising the whole morning. Well done to St Mark who were the winning house in KS 1, and to St Matthews, our KS 2 winners.

I hope everyone has a lovely weekend,

Elizabeth
