Sporting successes, anti-bullying show and bikeability

Last Saturday evening children from across KS 2 took part in the Godalming Swimming Gala. We were very impressed by their determination, team work and resilience. It is always a challenging event and the children did extremely well, with boys placing second and girls third making us third overall and winning the most improved school cup. A brilliant effort everyone, well done!

It has been a week of sporting successes. Firstly, our Year 6 netball team, pictures above, won their tournament on Monday afternoon and they will now go on to the county finals. Children from across KS 2 took part in a football tournament on Wednesday afternoon, coming third overall. Finally our hockey team played at the county finals on Thursday. They played really well against very strong competition.

On Tuesday afternoon Years 2 to 6 enjoyed an exciting performance from Firehorse Theatre group called ‘Sticks and Stones’ on the theme of anti-bullying. It was a very successful production with a strong message for everyone to ‘stand up for others and speak out’.

During our assembly on Tuesday we talked about the Transfiguration of Jesus and the changes he experienced and how we can make changes ourselves during Lent. We also heard speeches from our Year 6 public speakers. Alice and Flo were our entrants for the Catenian’s Annual Public Speaking Competition held at St Dunstan’s Church in Woking. It is always amazing to hear the variety and quality of the speeches presented. Well done Alice and Flo with your speeches on: ‘Paternity Leave’ and ‘Homework’ they were both excellent.

We have had a busy week with bikes as Year 4 children have taken part in the Bikeability scheme learning how to maintain their bikes, stop and start safely and developing their control and skills.

We have an assembly from CAFOD this morning, led by Chris Richardson. We have gone without our morning snacks to support CAFOD’s Lenten fast day, being a little bit hungry helps us to realise what it must be like for those who do not have enough to eat and we can make a small difference to others through our donations.

I hopewe all see some sunshine this weekend,

Elizabeth
