Physical Education
Physical Education (PE) is taught to encourage our pupils to develop and acquire skills, select and apply these skills appropriately, refine and evaluate their own and other pupils’ performances in the context of health and safety awareness. We cover aspects of gymnastics, dance and movement, swimming, games, fitness and indoor /outdoor athletics. Outdoor and adventurous activities are covered during residential trips and curriculum weeks. We promote equal opportunities and treat children as individuals with their own abilities, difficulties and attitudes .We have specialist teachers for some of our early years games and for gymnastic and dance across the age range. In addition to teaching football, netball, hockey, rounders and other outdoor games in lessons, extra-curricular clubs are offered:
Key Stage 2 pupils participate football matches against other schools and enter two tournaments. Running club- leading to a cross- country competition. Indoor athletics leading to a Sportshall Athletics competition, Athletics leading to our annual District sports which we have won 8 out of 9 years In addition we now we run a gymnastic club .
As well as these clubs the children have opportunities to take part in basketball, tennis, football KS1 run by outside organisations.
The children in KS2 also take part in our annual house netball and football tournaments.
