Good Shepherd Celebration and back in time with Year 1

This morning we have all enjoyed the latest class assembly from Year 1. The children took us all back in time to the Victorian era through reliving their visit to Tilford Rural Life Centre. The cast even featured me and their teachers as they led the class through the events of the day.  I think the highlight of the assembly was the Victorian school day when a poor, unfortunate child received the cane for talking! Thank you, year 1 for sharing your learning with us.

This week is DT week and the children have enjoyed a wonderful range of ‘real-life’ activities including making pasta, designing marble runs, castles with working drawbridges, making fruit cocktails, puppets, air raid shelters and pasta! They have planned and designed their projects very carefully before making them.

Our Year 6 children have been out and about on their bikes this week as they take their bikeability course, you may have seen them pedalling along in their high-vis jackets!

On Wednesday, we took a group of children to represent St Edmund’s at the Good Shepherd Diocesan Celebration at Worth Abbey. The theme this year was the sacred heart of Jesus, with each school making their own sacred heart to present to Bishop Richard. This was the first time we had been able to gather as Diocesan schools since 2019. It was lovely to see all the schools there, represented by their school banners. The children were fantastic and really enjoyed seeing the liturgical dances performed by some of the schools.

It’s Year 4’s turn to get out and about today with a trip to see The Life of Christ at Wintershall. They will see the whole story, from Jesus’ birth in Bethlehem to his death and resurrection, told in the beautiful settings at Wintershall. I’m sure that they will all have a wonderful day.

Next week, the children will meet their new teachers, and we will also meet our new Year R class as they join us for Moving Up morning on Tuesday. The Year 6 children will be visiting their secondary schools as we prepare for the whole cycle of school life to begin again.

Enjoy the weekend,
